Cabinet Hardware
Today I figured I would share a little tip with you regarding cabinet pulls! First let me say how much I LA LA LOVE playing around with cabinet hardware!! The design options are endless, and it can really change the look of a kitchen or bathroom! It is seriously like jewelry! So... how to choose?? What size/length? Knobs? Pulls? Cups? And what finish? The great thing is, there are no actual design "rules" on which to choose. There are, however, some guidelines that can help you make the right selection. I typically like to keep the "1/3 rule" in mind (ok, so there is one rule haha!). Consider for your drawers, the width of the drawer. If you have an 18" wide drawer, a 6" overall length pull would work nicely. For a more contemporary look, a 9" sleek pull would be ideal! Same goes for your cabinet doors...36" tall upper cabinet door could do a 12". For more traditional looks, go with pulls that are smaller and that have a bit more movement within the design. Remember when considering the size, you are looking at the overall length rather than the center-to-center measurement, that is for the holes. If you are replacing knobs/pulls to existing cabinets, you will need to stay with the same lengths unless you plan on drilling new holes, filling the old and repainting. And lastly, select a finish that coordinates with other finishes within the space or adjacent space. It does not have to be matchy-matchy...as a matter of fact, mixing metals is fun and encouraged! Happy Designing!!
